Bishops’ College, Cheshunt was an Anglican Theological College set up to train clergy to serve in the Church of England. It was housed in buildings formerly used by a non-conformist college that moved to Cambridge in 1905. It operated from 1909 until 1968 when it was then taken over as the home for Broxbourne Council.  Cabledan has been working closely with the IT department over the last 8 years undertaking Moves and Changes across the whole of the site. Our Expert Network Engineers have also been installing new networks and Fibre Optic Backbone Cabling to the many Data Cabinets and Satellite Sites across the sprawling sites covered by the Councils IT Department.

We were called in to investigate a fault in a section of the planning offices that we had never worked in before. IT informed us that they had connectivity on all the data ports but some would only connect at 10mbps. The Data Cabinet was only 45 meters away and the cabling was Cat5e, so they should be getting a speed range of 100mbps.

Upon investigation, our Data Cable Repair Engineers quickly ascertained that the fault had been caused by a shoddy installation or repair at some point. The previous installers had used Jelly Crimps to extend the cable so it could be terminated to the patch panel. Without a doubt a labor-intensive bit of bodging. They had used a cheap Mod Tap Cable Tester, which gave a positive test result. It certainly did not pass Cat5e standard on our State of the art Fluke Versiv certification tester, which is our standard Cable Tester.

All that was required was for our engineer to return out of hours. He disconnected the patch leads and then removed the Patch panel. He then re-terminated the Cat 5e Structured Cabling to a new Patch Panel using the Service Loop on the existing cabling. Cabledan’s Expert Data Cable Installers were able to complete this job in around 4 hours.  We estimate it probably took this long, if not longer to put on the 120 jelly crimps during the previous shoddy job.
